Cultural Activities
The Senior School is situated within Showa Women’s University, giving rise to superb opportunities for pupils to take a part in cultural exchange. We have over the last year held repeated events in collaboration with Showa Elementary and Secondary school. Events we take part in every year are- New Year tea ceremony, provided by a Showa Secondary School specialised club
- The Elementary school Mochi-pounding festival
- School visits including giving tours of our school, and visiting Showa Secondary. This has included language exchange activities and refreshments.
Japanese Day
Every year the British School runs a Japanese Day, where pupils are off timetable. This is a day packed with events celebrating Japanese Culture, and involves a range of visitors, such as musicians and comedians. Visitors have included shamisen players, kendama experts and famous Rakugo experts. Projects that teachers and artists have collaborated on have included Chigirie and pottery, origami and dance, as well as performances based around regional Japanese music involving entire year groups. On Japanese Day all pupils come into school in a costume that displays an element of Japanese culture.
