School Council
The School Council plays an important role in the BST school community. Each class from Year 1 to Year 11 elects 2 representatives at the start of each term. These class representatives attend the regular school council meetings and discuss an agenda of topics which the collective student body feel need to be discussed.
Junior School.
The Junior School Council has been extremely interested in helping BST become an Eco-School and each councillor held a survey in their classes to measure how environmentally friendly we are. The Junior School Council will be continuing this work in September.
Other agendas have included: discussing the possibility of more school trips; ideas for charity events such as free dress days and jumble sales; classroom behaviour; book monitors; football during break time (bibs were requested); play fighting and creating a friendship bench in the playground. An examples of one particularly popular recent decision was the introduction of a BST school pet, Patch the guineau pig.
Senior School
The Senior School Council is made up of elected representatives of each Tutor group and is chaired by Year 11 students. The Council discusses issues raised by students or by teachers, sending its recommendations weekly to the school Senior Leadership Team for consideration and action.
This year the Senior School Council has been involved in organising a variety of charity events, including a project to build houses in Cambodia; it formed a BST delegation to meet Prince Charles when he visited Japan recently; it was an integral part of the interview process this year that led to the appointment of our new Head Teacher.
Both the Junior and Senior School Councils are valued by our students and is taken very seriously by the school community as a democratic means of creating dialogue between students and staff. Please click here to see a sample agenda from our Junior School Council.
