About the PTA

The Parent Teacher Association – PTA - is an association of parents and teachers that provides support, information and resources to the BritishSchool community.

It has 3 key objectives:

·    To support the school’s activities by enhancing the children’s experience of studying the British curriculum in Japan

·    To support the social wellbeing of the BST Community

·    Fundraising to support these objectives.

Involvement in the PTA is open to all members of the school community, and is greatly encouraged; it has been proven that children do better at school when their parents are involved both at home and in school.

Message from the PTA Chair:

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the BritishSchool in Tokyo for the 2009-10 academic year.  We are thrilled that you are to join our community and will do our best to make your family’s time with us an enjoyable experience.

The mission of the PTA is to enrich the school experience for all, students, parents and teachers alike, and we are always delighted hear your ideas and feedback, as well as welcome new volunteers to the PTA; as the saying goes, ‘many hands make light work’ and the more hands we have involved, the more we can do to support the school, and the children.

The PTA is also not only a great way to learn about the school, and make new friends, but studies have also shown that children of parents that are actively involved in their school, do better in their studies!

If you are interested, there are any number of ways you could get involved, from simply attending our coffee mornings, to helping run a one-off event, or even taking a position as an Executive Committee member.  PTA meetings are held once a month (the dates are announced in the school newsletter, and on the website), and are open to all comers.  The minutes from these meetings are also posted on the website.

So in closing, I urge you to find out about, and support the efforts of the PTA as much as possible, and help us achieve out mission, and make the school an even more amazing place.  I also wish you a very happy time here with us at BST and hope to meet you soon.

Best wishes,

Julia Maeda
