Learning
At The British School in Tokyo (BST) students are encouraged to develop creativity, curiosity, independence and perseverance by providing excellent teaching in a safe, happy and positive educational environment. BST teaches the English National Curriculum and GCSE, while embracing the School’s Japanese context.BST seeks to engender a culture of achievement and high standards. It aims to give students a passion for learning so that they can all develop to their full potential and achieve the expected academic standards, or higher, in accordance with the English National Curriculum and 14-19 Framework.
Education at BST is an intellectually rewarding and enjoyable experience; it should be challenging but also fun. At BST students will acquire the skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare them for their future lives. BST also promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of learners at the School and within society
We acknowledge that students learn in many different ways. BST recognises the need to develop teaching strategies that allow all students to learn in ways that best suit their abilities, taking into account the different forms of intelligence: linguistic, logical/mathematical, visual/spatial, kinaesthetic, musical, interpersonal/group working and interpersonal/reflective, as well as their emotional needs. We encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, to be involved as far as possible in reviewing the way they learn, and to reflect on how they learn - what helps them learn and what makes it difficult for them to learn.
