Senior School

Thank you for your interest in BST’s Senior School. The School is a relatively small but growing department that provides education currently for 11 to 16 year olds, soon to be extended up to 18 year olds.

The curriculum experience is split into three stages:

Key Stage Three (for Years 7 to 9 - ages 11 to 14)
While ensuring continuity and progression from the upper years of our Junior School, we provide our students with stimulating and challenging activities that teach them the programmes of study of the National Curriculum for England.

Key Stage Four
(for Years 10 and 11 - ages 14 to 16)
In this stage we teach UK GCSE certified courses (http://www.aqa.org.uk ), covering a wide ranges of options and interests, in an engaging and highly personalised manner.

Key Stage Five (for Years 12 and 13 - ages 16 to 18)
In January 2010, it was decided that the School should extend our provision to Key Stage Five, offering A-Levels

We are proud that our students learn from the most up to date equipment, techniques and procedures; we model ourselves on accepted best practice in England, yet enjoy the luxury of being selective about what we do, based on the best interests of our students.

However, our School is much more than the subjects and taught courses; there is a positive ethos that pervades everything we do. Our priority is the individual student developing as both a person and a learner. Academic results are strong, yet we also offer a wide range of opportunities within music, drama, sport and outdoor and adventurous activities, that develop our students as individuals. We recommend that you read more on this site about BST Outdoors and the International Award, the Music Department, Sport in the Senior School, the Student Council, clubs and activities, and the many other aspects to our educational provision that ensure genuine breadth and balance.

The welfare and pastoral support of pre teen and teenagers is vital to both personal growth and academic success. In the Senior School we provide all students with a support structure based on a form tutor who takes responsibility for both the pastoral welfare of each of our students, as well as their academic performance. The relationship between student, parents and the tutor is vital and develops into a strong bond over the months.

In BST’s Senior School our students are ‘switched on to learning’ by a remarkably diverse and dynamic faculty of teachers, who routinely go the extra mile to ensure the very best deal for each child. We are confident that you will be impressed by our School and look forward to welcoming you when you visit Tokyo.
