Geography
Geography helps you make sense of the world; without Geography you are... nowhere! We tackle the big issues: environmental responsibility; our global interdependence; cultural understanding and tolerance; and commerce, trade and industry.
The world in which we live is likely to change more in the next fifty years than it has ever done before. Geography explains why, and helps us to prepare for these changes. Geography is about the future and encourages flexible thinking.
In Years 10 and 11 we follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE. It covers a range of units encompassing both human and physical geography. Students develop knowledge and understanding of a dynamic range of places, environments and geographical patterns at a range of scales from local to global, as well as an understanding of development issues. They acquire and apply the geographical skills involved in mapwork and fieldwork and ICT.
In Years 12 and 13, we study core human and physical geography. In each area of study, we consider the values and attitudes of decision-makers, consider our own values and attitudes to the issues being studied and support the learning of ideas through the study of specific case studies. Students also develop a variety of geographical skills, which broaden and deepen existing knowledge and are employed with significant independence.
Geographers can make concise reports, handle data, ask questions and find answers, make decisions about an issue, analyse material, organise themselves and think creatively and independently.
