Physical Education



Physical Education at BST develops student’s competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that will become a central part of their lives, in and out of school.

At KS3 students have two lessons a week enabling them to gain competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. Within these sporting disciplines students are taught through the 6 strands of the British National PE Curriculum: Outwitting opponents; accurate replication, exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions, performing at maximum levels, exercising safely and effectively to improve health and wellbeing.

Throughout key stage 4 all students’ involvement and commitment continues, students follow the AQA GCSE Syllabus. Following structured lessons of practical and theory PE, focusing on their knowledge and understanding of the active participant and their practical application as an active performer, leader or coach. Throughout these two years students will complete a range of assessments and observations in a variety of sports and apply their knowledge and understanding through an examination.

At key stage 5 pupils have a weekly games session and have the opportunity to take AS/A level PE following the AQA syllabus.

Students will all follow the Sports Leaders programme is designed by the National Coaching Foundation in the UK throughout secondary PE, starting with JSLA leading onto Sport Leaders Award which is part of their GCSE PE study. Students will spend time learning how to coach, organise and lead young students, completing a wide range of tasks and having the opportunity to organising mini tournaments for younger years.

Extra Curriculum activities are an important part of student’s development and performance, they will have the opportunity to attend a range of activities and compete in a number of fixtures and tournaments, throughout the school year.
