Learning Support
Many children need a little extra support at certain times in their school life.At The British School in Tokyo, student progress is comprehensively tracked and individual pupils in need of additional support are identified early. Liaison between teachers, the Head of Learning Support and parents is established to plan provision which meets the learning needs of individuals.
Whole class teaching is well planned and inclusive, enabling all children to participate and make progress. Personalised learning ensures that every pupil has the opportunity to achieve the highest standard possible. Children’s learning styles and individual pace are taken into consideration to maximize the potential to learning.
Some children have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) with short term targets which are reviewed every term. Parents are involved in the planning of these targets and understand how they can be supportive in helping their child to achieve their next learning goals. Children are also aware of their individual targets and what they need to do next in order to achieve the desired learning outcomes.
For children with specific learning difficulties, the Learning Support department can draw on specialist services from the wider community.
