Pastoral Support

In BST Secondary School, pastoral support for students is deployed primarily from the Form Tutor, who is the first point of contact for parents, teachers and, of course, the students themselves.

Pastoral support can come in many guises: “I’ve lost my homework diary!”; “I’m confused!”; My best friend has just moved to Shanghai and I’m lonely!”; “I can’t decide which clubs to join!”; “I need advice!” are all cries that we respond to with pastoral support.

Should the tutor feel that further, or different, help is needed, a student can be referred, for example, to the Pastoral Leader, or their Head of House, or a peer, or another teacher who has useful knowledge and experience, or further afield to an Educational Psychologist.

A structured PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) programme is delivered by Form Tutors and enhanced through, for example, whole-school assemblies as well as across the curriculum in specific areas of study.

We are a small enough school that everyone just about knows everyone else – and this in itself is a very strong pastoral foundation.  Mutual care and support, laid over our embedded systems, make for a school where, if you need help, you’ve got it.

Please see BST’s Pastoral policy for complementary details.
