The Tutor System

A Secondary School is organised largely around subject Departments, but students still need a base, a place to start the day, a group to support and be supported by.  The Tutor Group fulfils this basic role and the Tutor is the first point of contact for students, parents and, indeed, subject teachers alike. 

The Tutor is responsible for registering students every morning, for delivering the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) programme in Tutor period once a week, for writing Tutor reports to parents each term, for academic mentoring, for supplying or coordinating whatever help or guidance a student may need, for contacting (and being contacted by) parents, for checking Homework Diaries every week, for delivering messages, chivvying on, checking up, dressing down and so on.

The Tutor Group serves one of the key social functions in school:
