School closed this week - Earthquake - children safe - nuclear site situation being monitored

The School will be closed for the rest of the week. This decision is based on the uncertainty of a regular power supply and the impact this would have on transportation, safety and maintaining necessary communication.

At this time, we believe it is important to keep families together and keep in contact with each other as much as possible. Any updates during the week will be posted on our website and sent by email. A decision about whether the school will operate next week will be made on Friday and will be communicated through email and our website by the end of the day on Friday 18th March. If possible, we will try to give an indication of the likely decision on Wednesday 16th March.

We will be sending another message shortly outlining ways that you can support your child over the coming days.

Thank you for your patience with pick up arrangements following the earthquake on Friday and to the many parents who helped out other families. Thank you also to the teachers and non teaching staff, many of whom stayed into the early hours or had to walk long distances home. The last child was picked up at 3am.

We are monitoring the situation at the nuclear plant 150 miles north east of Tokyo in Fukushima. At present the isolation zone is 20 kilometers, winds are mild and are forecast in Tokyo to come from the south, not from the north, over the next 3 days. Parents may wish to look at the UK and US Embassy websites, which post advice to their nationals and are useful sources of local information in addition to the normal news websites.
