Radiation Precautions

Air and soil

As a precaution, we are monitoring radiation measurements at, and in the vicinity of, our two campuses.

In September 2011, we commissioned the Environmental Pollution Research & Analysis Center to carry out comprehensive testing of radiation levels at various places indoors and outdoors at both the Shibuya and Showa campuses, including all outdoor playgrounds and the Shibuya roof. All readings were low. The full report can be read here.

At our Shibuya campus, SKG, our Japanese parent school, have been taking radiation readings on a daily basis. The readings have been low. In addition, we are monitoring the measurements taken by the local government authority the Shibuya ward, although these are not taken regularly and have not been taken for some time. We are also monitoring each day measurements posted each day for Shibuya on Yahoo. These readings have also all been low. The relevant websites are as follows:

At our Showa campus, Showa Women's University have been taking radiation readings on the campus and will continue to do so twice each week. The readings have been low. In addition, we are monitoring each day the measurements taken by the local government authority the Setagaya ward, although these are not taken in the immediate area of the campus. These readings have also all been low. The relevant website is as follows:

We understand that it is unlikely that radiation levels will rise now in areas where they are currently low, unless the situation at Fukushima deteriorates. However we will continue to monitor the readings and will of course take immediate action in the unlikely event that the readings rise to significant levels.

Water and Food

The drinking water in the water fountains in the school is a filtered version of the public water supply and we rely on the Japanese government to ensure safe levels in the public water supply. If parents are concerned about this, students can bring their own bottled water into school.

Kiwi kitchen, the service provider of hot meals for students on the Showa campus, has issued an ingredients source list. This can be found on their website at:
