The Goals of The British School in Tokyo:
- To provide an excellent, broad and balanced education, following and complementing the English National Curriculum, for the children of the British community in Japan whilst actively welcoming children of all nationalities.
- To recruit and retain teachers with sound experience who are well qualified to fulfil the School's purpose and to teach the English National Curriculum.
- To ensure that all children are provided with the resources and opportunity to learn and develop to the best of their ability so that:
- All children achieve the expected standards or higher in accordance with the English National Curriculum.
- More than half the children reach one level higher than would be expected of their age cohort in schools in the UK.
- All children at BST progress through the levels of Key Stages One and Two more quickly than is prescribed in the English National Curriculum.
- BST exceeds the levels of academic attainment achieved by pupils attending schools belonging to the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools.
- To promote the simple rules of good behaviour, mutual respect and tolerance for others.
- To observe the governance standards that apply to schools in the United Kingdom, making allowances and adjustments as necessary to complement the School's operations in Japan.
- To provide safe, well-maintained, stimulating and enjoyable facilities that allow the School to realise its goals and its purpose.
- To provide a comprehensive range of extra-curricular activities to assist with the learning, development and fulfilment of pupils.
- To enrich the curriculum with the provision of opportunities to study the culture, history and language of Japan.
- To operate the School on a sound financial and legal basis.
