A: Most year groups are typically full, however, this can change during the school year. For up to date information on the availability of places, please contact our Admissions Office at admissions@bst.ac.jp.

A: BST is not an academically selective school. However, all subjects are taught in English and therefore proficiency in English relative to age is required.

At least one parent must be able to communicate effectively in English as well.

We do not sponsor/support student visas, and expect students to be ‘dependents’ under their parents’ visa in Japan. Students must have visas prior to starting school.

The British School in Tokyo does not have boarding facilities and students are required to reside in Japan with at least one parent. We do not sponsor/support student visas and expect students to be ‘dependents’ under their parents’ visa in Japan. Students must have such visas prior to starting school.

A: Our school year groups are determined by age and out-of-year placement is not considered by the school.

A: The typical number of students per class in Nursery and Reception is 20. For all other years the normal class size is 22. In the Senior School some classes can be very small depending on the number of students selecting particular subjects.

A: All Primary classes have one Class Teacher and one Educational Assistant (EA). Our EAs participate in regular training offered by internal and external staff and some become Higher Level teaching assistants.

A: BST currently has over 1,400 students comprising of approximately 65 nationalities.

A:  Yes, all students must wear the School uniform with the exception of Senior School students who have dress codes. Please see details regarding our uniform on the uniform page.

A: BST provides a shuttle bus between three stops - Azabudai Hills campus, SKG Shibuya and BST Showa campus. The AM bus service runs from 7:15 to 9:00, and the PM bus service operates from 3:15 to 5:35. The bus service is available to Primary and Secondary students, except for Nursery.

Seats on the bus need to be booked and paid for one term in advance. For further details and payment arrangements, please contact bstar@bst.ac.jp.
