The British School in Tokyo is pleased to announce that we have been approved as a BTEC and ASDAN centre, marking a significant expansion of our alternative curriculum offerings. These developments are aimed at diversifying our educational programmes to meet a broader range of student needs and interests, thereby enhancing our commitment to inclusive education and preparing students for a successful personalised future.
As a genuinely inclusive and non-academically selective school, we provide students with access to a range of tailored Personalised Learning Pathways so they are able to accomplish their academic and non-academic goals.
Starting from August 2024, BST will be offering BTEC Level 3 in Enterprise and Sport. These courses have been selected to complement our existing A-Level offerings, providing a robust and varied curriculum that caters to the diverse interests and career aspirations of our students.
Students will have the flexibility to opt for a curriculum composed purely of BTEC courses or a mixture of BTEC and A-Level courses. Some students will be directed towards choosing BTEC courses based on their academic profiles and career goals. This guidance is intended to ensure that all students are placed on a pathway that maximises their potential for success.
ASDAN is a world-renowned education charity and awarding organisation providing courses, accredited curriculum programmes and regulated qualifications to engage, elevate and empower young people aged 11 to 25 years with diverse needs.
BST is now becoming the only school in Japan offering ASDAN courses. The School will provide an alternative curriculum option for students with special needs in both Primary and Secondary schools. This programme is designed to offer a more practical and skills-based approach to learning, catering to students who may benefit from a different educational model to the one we currently offer. Students opting for ASDAN courses will be removed from some traditional lessons to engage in these specialised courses, taught by members of the Student Support Services team.
The two programmes that we will initially run are:
Preparing for Adulthood
We will offer courses such as New Horizons, Transition Challenge, and Towards Independence. These courses are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a smooth transition to adulthood, focusing on personal, social, and vocational education.
International Awards
The International Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards will be available, offering students the opportunity to gain recognition for their achievements in a range of skills and activities, fostering a global perspective and enhancing their personal development.
We are now in great pride that BST will be able to complement our exceptionally strong A-Level and (I)GCSE offerings with alternative options for a range of learners, and offer meaningful opportunities to students with a diverse range of learners.
