The British School in Tokyo (BST) is proud to announce that two of our outstanding students, Magnus and Sophia, have been recognised in the prestigious COBIS Student Achievement Awards. These global awards celebrate students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their school, their community, and the wider world.

Magnus (Year 6): Outstanding leadership and compassion
Magnus was nominated for his remarkable leadership and compassion. As the founder of the Sakura Group, a student-led charity supporting War Child, Magnus has been a driving force for fundraising at BST. His efforts culminated in the highly successful Sakura Discos, which raised over 235,000 Japanese Yen in 2025 alone.
Beyond fundraising, Magnus has shown a deep commitment to global advocacy. He created a children’s politics podcast to give young people a platform on issues like AI and climate change, and he has even shared his vision at the Tokyo Greenpeace office. His dedication to making a real-world difference is truly inspiring.
Sophia (Year 12): Commitment to a charitable cause
Sophia received her award in recognition of her exceptional service and organizational initiative. By founding the Key Club, Sophia established a structured platform for students to support environmental and community projects. Her leadership led to successful animal welfare fundraisers and a significant contribution as a United World School (UWS) ambassador.
Through her creativity and determination, Sophia played a pivotal role in raising 350,000 Yen for our partner school in Nepal through dedicated bake and art sales. Her ability to turn ideas into impactful action makes her a truly deserving recipient of this accolade.
A shared commitment to excellence
Both Magnus and Sophia embody the core values of BST. Their awards not only celebrate their individual hard work but also the spirit of kindness and global citizenship we strive to foster in all our students.
Congratulations to Magnus and Sophia on this fantastic international recognition!
