Following the comprehensive accreditation process in October and November 2022, we are honoured to announce that The British School in Tokyo (BST) has officially been accredited Patron’s Accreditation from the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). The School has met the Standards as set out by COBIS for the Patron’s Accreditation and Compliance programme, which marks BST the first school in Japan to become a Patron’s Accredited Member.
COBIS is a membership association that represents more than 450 schools and organisations globally. High-quality COBIS schools, which educate over 165,000 students and employ more than 17,000 teachers, can be found in more than 80 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. COBIS Supporting Associates provide a wide range of services and resources to the international schools sector.
BST has been a member of COBIS since 2012. The Patron’s Accreditation has approved excellent education services BST provides for international students in Japan. In the report, the school was commended in these areas but not limited to:
The school provides a pastoral structure that meets the needs of all students and promotes their personal development.
The school has an outward-looking perspective promoting its values via a wide curriculum and through opportunities to develop awareness of other cultures and global issues as far as this is permissible within the host country.
David James, Deputy Principal of The British School in Japan, said,
“We are delighted that BST is now a COBIS Accredited Member School. The COBIS Patron’s Accreditation and Compliance is a school improvement and development journey which recognises high-quality British international schools overseas. We are pleased the report commended us for different aspects of our provision as we continue to provide an inclusive and holistic education in English for the international community of Tokyo.”
