The British School in Tokyo (BST) is proud to announce its inclusion in the Spear’s Schools Index 2026, marking its second consecutive year being recognised as one of the 100 leading private schools in the world. BST also remains the only school in Japan featured in this prestigious global list.

Published annually, the Spear’s Schools Index is widely regarded as a trusted guide for international families and advisors, highlighting the world’s most outstanding private schools. Schools are selected through a rigorous process led by the Spear’s Research Unit in collaboration with Thuso and an expert advisory panel of leading education specialists. Evaluation criteria go beyond academic results to include pastoral care, values, culture, and the overall student experience.

This continued recognition underscores BST’s consistent commitment to excellence in education and its holistic approach to nurturing each student’s individual strengths, character, and aspirations.

At BST, students benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum based on the English National Curriculum, combined with a distinctly international outlook. From Early Years through to Senior School, the school provides a rich educational experience that blends academic achievement with outstanding opportunities in sport, the arts, and co-curricular learning.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr Ian Clayton, BST Principal, said:

“To be recognised once again in the Spear’s Schools Index is a tremendous honour. Being included for a second consecutive year, and as the only school in Japan, reflects the dedication of our staff, the engagement of our students, and the strength of our community. We remain committed to providing an education that enables every student to thrive and make a meaningful impact in the world.”

This recognition further reinforces BST’s mission to provide an inclusive and holistic education, empowering students to develop a strong sense of self, purpose, and passion.
