Trustees Committee

In order to monitor and advise on specific areas of the School’s activities, the trustees are organised into committees and specific taskforces. Non-trustees, normally staff of the School, are regularly invited to attend meetings of the committees or to participate in the taskforces.

Strategy

The Strategy Committee is convened at the discretion of the Chair to explore and frame issues that are put to the Board for debate and discussion. The Committee is headed by the Chair and includes other trustees depending on the topic.

Education

The Education Committee works closely with the Heads of School to review key educational policies. The Education Committee meets at least 5 times during the year.

Finance

The Finance Committee oversees the financial performance of the School and works with the Bursar of the School to establish the financial strategy. The Finance Committee meets at least 5 times during the year.

Property

The Property Committee meets at least 5 times during the year to support and approve the planning for the development of facilities and premises for the School.

Bursaries

A sub-set of trustees serve on the Bursaries Committee, together with the Principal and the Bursar. This Committee convenes as and when necessary to deliberate applications for bursaries.

Legal & REGULATORY AFFAIRS

The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Committee oversees the School’s compliance with its constitutional documents, regulatory requirements and agreements with the School’s key partners. The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Committee meets as and when required.

Development

The Development Committee meets at least 5 times during the year and supports the School in building community awareness and support of the mission of the School in the form of financial donations and other partnerships.

Groups of trustees also serve on panels with a defined remit or taskforces charged with investigating specific issues for example, panels of trustees have been convened for the recruitment of Head of School or Bursar of the School and a task force has also been set up to review the performance appraisal process for senior leadership of the School.

Comino Tamura

spent more than two decades working in fund management in London and Tokyo. She has two children at the School. She is British.

Malcolm Begg

works for Swiss Re in Tokyo, having previously served as Chair of Governors for a primary academy in London. He is British.

Colin Bell

is CEO of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) which represents c.300 British schools in more than 80 countries worldwide. He is also a member of the UK Department for International Trade International Education Advisory Group. He lives in UK with his family. He is British.

John Cook

is a Director of international property consulting firm Jones Lang LaSalle with expertise in the areas of project and construction management. He has been living in Tokyo for more than 10 years. He is British.

Stuart Gibson

is Co-Founder and CEO of ESR Limited, a leading pan-Asia logistics real estate developer. He has twin children. He is British.

Paul Habeshaw

is a senior executive at Nihon Cyber Defence, having previously served in the UK’s Foreign Office and in HM Treasury. He has lived in Japan for over 9 years in total. He has one child at university in the UK and another at the School. He is British and Irish.

Jonathan Hewitt

was formerly the Chief Operating Officer for Adidas Japan. He has lived in Japan for over twenty five years with a background in luxury and sports. He has one son at university in the UK. Jonathan is British.

Isamu (Sam) Inohara

is a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright. He has two children at the School. He is American.

PETER KILNER

is an executive coach and a UK and Hong Kong qualified solicitor. He was a partner of Clifford Chance for nearly 20 years and has worked in Tokyo, London and Hong Kong. Peter has lived in Japan for more than 10 years in total. He is British.

Simon Mather

is a UK qualified Chartered Accountant and is a partner at Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory Tokyo. He is British.

James Nepaulsingh

is an English-qualified corporate lawyer and he works at a major Japanese trading company in Tokyo. He has lived in Japan for over 15 years and has also worked in London and Abu Dhabi. He has two children. He is British.

Helen Smith

is Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Tokyo. Helen has three children, the eldest is at the School.

Hiromi Tengeji-Sugimoto

represents the Japan office of Kopernik, an organisation which addresses social issues in developing countries. She has two children, one at the School. She is Japanese.

Laura Weeks

heads up the Asia Pacific growth strategy at WWF. She has three children at the School. She is British.

Rie Yamada

is the Principal of Wabisuki Academy and a Commissioner of the Kamakura City Board of Education. She is Japanese.
