TAIKO CLUB
Taiko drumming is one of the most wonderful Japanese cultural activities that everyone can enjoy. It's athletic, musical and spiritual. Younger students learn the basic skills on one drum and they start playing solo pieces before progressing on to ensemble pieces. As the students receive more experience, each player uses 2-3 drums to create more complex rhythms which results in the large scale of a Taiko ensemble being completed. In the class the students learn not only the technique of Taiko drumming, but also how to work together to make good teamwork. Ultimately students grow in confidence and develop an ability to understand music and how this ancient Japanese art form is still an important part of Japanese culture today.
