PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) welcomes and represents all BST parents in its work to foster a strong sense of engagement and belonging in both the school and the wider community.

The PTA is:

  • Diverse: Membership includes families from all backgrounds, cultures, languages and ethnicities.
  • Inclusive: Every parent is invited to get involved in whatever capacity they choose.
  • Engaged: Over the course of each academic year, the PTA collaborates closely with the school administration to organise monthly, termly and annual events. Every month, coffee mornings provide a casual opportunity for new and veteran parents to meet and mingle. Charity drives and fund-raisers to support causes in the local community take place every term, and on an annual basis, formal galas celebrate and support school initiatives such as the Annual Fund
  • Supportive: The PTA understands that BST families' needs extend beyond the school, and works to provide resources that will help them settle into or engage in a balanced, healthy lifestyle. These include seminars and webinars with external health and lifestyle experts, workshops on natural disaster preparedness, lectures on current events, and more.

All PTA activities are entirely volunteer-based, led by an Executive Committee of parents who come forward based on their experience and time commitment.

To learn more about the PTA, contact pta@bst.ac.jp.

Art work example:

ABOUT ART
Coral reefs are also known as ocean forests. Coral reefs have been bleached repeatedly. This artwork is a message of "What is the destination that corals and fishes are looking for?

ABOUT GRAPH
Areas where coral bleaching has occurred
Coral reefs are rich ecosystems where a quarter of the ocean's species live. 1998 saw a massive bleaching of coral in many areas. Bleaching occurs when the coral loses the zooxanthellae that live in symbiosis with the coral, and if this continues, the coral will die. The cause of bleaching is believed to be rising sea temperatures, and experts warn that the situation will become even more severe as sea temperatures rise.

Visit chart project® Website for more examples of Art work.

BST chart project® Art Competition - Submissions due Mon 22nd April 2024

Dear Parents,

The PTA would like to present to you the BST chart project® Art Competition. It is a competition in collaboration with the chart project®. Details of the chart project® can be found at www.chartproject.org. It is launched as an initiative to raise awareness and engagement in SDGs within our BST community. It will be open for entry between 22nd March and 22nd April 2024. You can conduct original surveys to prepare your own data or obtain data available online.

By conducting research on data relating to different SDGs and preparing SDGs related data graph charts, it will help us to learn and deepen their understanding on the meaning and implications of different SDGs. It will also help us to consider and explore ways to implement measures to achieve SDGs within our community.

With all of your support and participation at this competition, it would demonstrate our strenuous effort to achieve SDG No.4 (Quality Education) and No.11 (Sustainable Societies and Communities).

The competition is open to all members of our BST community. Please submit your artwork (1) physically between Wednesday, 17th April and Monday, 22nd April 2024 at either of our campuses as well as (2) online using the relevant Google Form below.

For full details of the competition, please refer to the competition rules attached below:
https://tinyurl.com/ykapehut

Submissions must be in JPEG format, and should be at least 1MB and no more than 100MB. Please clearly label the JPEG file with the entrants name and class or tutor group e.g. ‘AmyLewisB2.jpg’ (where relevant) when submitting.

Let’s be a “chartist” and create artwork based on graph data relating to SDGs in BST or Tokyo or Japan! The artwork needs to be correlated with the theme of the chart graph with a suggested solution for the social issue related to the graph data.

A total of 15 winners and runners-up (1 winner and 2 runners-up in each entrant category) will be selected by the chart project® team. The judging criteria will be based on the creativity of the artwork for use of materials and correlation to the chart graph, the meaning and implications of the chart data and the presentation and meaning of the artwork. All decisions of the chart project® team will be final and binding.

Winners and runners-up in each entrant category will have their chart graphs and artworks displayed in an upcoming BST chart project® Artwork Exhibition in both Azabudai and Showa campus.

If you have any questions regarding this competition, please contact Mrs. Grey (lgrey@bst.ac.jp)
