Giving to BST

BST students hurray in class

The British School in Tokyo is an inclusive school with high academic standards and a diverse student body of more than 65 nationalities. The curriculum is broad and provides all students with the support and experiences to maximise their potential. Maintaining and developing our outstanding reputation involves drawing on the support of our community in the form of financial contributions as well as volunteer time.

BST is a non-profit institution and, as with many independent international schools, tuition fees alone do not cover the cost of educating each student to the standards of excellence that our community expects. Individual and corporate philanthropy assists in fulfilling our mission and vision for the future. BST needs the continued support exemplified by the contributions from companies and individuals at the time of the School’s opening in 1989 and from those who have continued to give to the school in the years since.

While BST is most appreciative of philanthropic support from friends and communities, the school does not accept gifts from prospective families who are not otherwise affiliated with the school during the Admissions process. This ensures that the focus remains on BST’s prospective students and their strengths as candidates for admittance.

Gifts to BST allow us to continue offering the many academic, sports and cultural programmes that have contributed to our “Excellent” grading by the independent Schools Inspectorate. Now there is no better way to make an immediate impact than by donating your gift to the BST Annual Fund. We will apply your contribution in the shorter term to innovative and exciting projects for the students, and current initiatives in our Strategic Plan.

We depend on the philanthropic support of our entire school community, and we invite your support today. Matching your financial means, as well as your interests, is not difficult. Every gift of any size makes a difference.

Ways to Give

Making your donation is easy and can be done by bank transfer or by credit card. If neither method matches your needs, or if you have some additional questions, please contact the Development Office for assistance and more information. <devt-office@bst.ac.jp>

As with any method of giving, online donations by credit card, debit card and some other electronic means may be deductible from a donor's taxable income in Japan. BST's special tax dispensation status, known colloquially as "Tokuzo", permits us to issue tax receipts for yen gifts over 2,000 yen. For individuals, the upper limitation is 40% of total taxable income. A tax receipt and more information is available at the Development Office. <devt-office@bst.ac.jp>
