Trustees Sub-committees

In order to monitor and advise on specific areas of the School’s activities, the trustees are organised into sub-committees, offices and specific taskforces. Non-trustees, normally staff of the School, are regularly invited to attend meetings of the sub-committees or to participate in the taskforces.

Strategy

The Strategy Sub-Committee is convened at the discretion of the Chair to explore and frame issues that are put to the Board for debate and discussion. The Sub-Committee is headed by the Chair and includes the Vice Chairs and other trustees depending on the topic.

Education

The Education Sub-Committee works closely with the Heads of School to review key educational policies. The Education Sub-Committee meets at least 5 times during the year.

Finance

The Finance Sub-Committee oversees the financial performance of the School and works with the Bursar of the School to establish the financial strategy. The Finance Sub-Committee meets at least 5 times during the year.

The Property Sub-Committee meets at least 5 times during the year to support and approve the planning for the development of facilities and premises for the School.

Bursaries

A sub-set of trustees serve on the Bursaries Sub-Committee, together with the Principal and the Bursar. This Sub-Committee convenes as and when necessary to deliberate applications for bursaries.

Legal & REGULATORY AFFAIRS

The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Sub-Committee oversees the School’s compliance with its constitutional documents, regulatory requirements and agreements with the School’s key partners. The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Sub-Committee meets at least 5 times a year.

Groups of trustees also serve on panels with a defined remit or taskforces charged with investigating specific issues for example, panels of trustees have been convened for the recruitment of Head of School or Bursar of the School and a task force has also been set up to review the performance appraisal process for senior leadership of the School.

James Hollow

(Chair) is CEO of MullenLowe Group Japan and Korea, one of the world’s leading communications agency networks, spanning creative & brand strategy, media and data sciences. He has two children at the School. He is British.

Carolyn Siauw

is a UK and Singapore qualified solicitor and worked in both the London and Tokyo offices of Herbert Smith Freehills. She has two children at the School. She is Singaporean.

Colin Bell

is CEO of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) which represents c.300 British schools in more than 80 countries worldwide. He is also a member of the UK Department for International Trade International Education Advisory Group. He lives in UK with his family. He is British.

Malcolm Begg

works for Swiss Re in Tokyo, having previously served as Chair of Governors for a primary academy in London. He is British.

Isamu (Sam) Inohara

is a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.  He has two children at the School.  He is American.

Greg Mulheirn

is Economic Counsellor and Olympic Attaché at the British Embassy. He has three children at the School.

Jonathan Hewitt

was formerly the Chief Operating Officer for Adidas Japan. He has lived in Japan for over twenty five years with a background in luxury and sports. He has one son at university in the UK. Jonathan is British.

Louise Stoupe

is a UK, New Zealand and California qualified solicitor and is a partner of Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she is co-chair of the Global Commercial Litigation and Trial Practice Group. She has two children. She is a national of New Zealand and Samoa.

Rie Yamada

is the Principal of Wabisuki Academy and a Commissioner of the Kamakura City Board of Education. She is Japanese.

Comino Tamura

was a Japanese equity fund manager in London and Tokyo.  She has two children at the School.  She is British.

PETER KILNER

is an executive coach and a UK and Hong Kong qualified solicitor.  He was a partner of Clifford Chance for nearly 20 years and has worked in Tokyo, London and Hong Kong.  Peter has lived in Japan for more than 10 years in total.  He is British.

Simon Mather

is a UK qualified Chartered Accountant and is a partner at Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory Tokyo. He is British.

Stuart Gibson

is Co-Founder and CEO of ESR Limited, a leading pan-Asia logistics real estate developer. He has twin children. He is British.

Sue Kinoshita

is Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Tokyo.

Leisa Nagy

is the Head of Human Resources for a US investment bank in Tokyo.  Leisa has two children at the School.  She is Australian.

Hiromi Tengeji-Sugimoto

represents the Japan office of Kopernik, an organisation which addresses social issues in developing countries. She has two children, one at the School. She is Japanese.

John Cook

is a Director of international property consulting firm Jones Lang LaSalle with expertise in the areas of project and construction management.  He has been living in Tokyo for 8 years. He is British.

Laura Weeks

heads up the Asia Pacific growth strategy at WWF. She has three children at the School. She is British.
